John A. James, Chairman and founder of James Group International represents everything we stand for because he is the one who stood for what he believed in. All the while building an empire in one of the greatest cities on earth: Detroit, MI.
Mr. James has always had a love of lifelong learning with him earning degrees at Mississippi Valley State University, University of Toledo and Wayne State University with degrees in Sociology, Guidance and Business Administration.
A love of country is evident in the entire James family and that was very true with Mr. James. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966, served as an office in the Army Corp of Engineers and was decorated with medals his entire military career.
The next chapter of Mr. James’s life was centered on what he’s the best at: Entrepreneurism. He started his very first transportation company in 1971 and hasn’t let off the accelerator for a second ever since. In those past 50 years, the business has expanded and grown over and over again with new companies started in logistics, transportation, warehousing and technology.
A well-known powerhouse in the industry, he’s been on multiple boards and recognized by everyone from General Motors, Ernst & Young, USA Today and Crain’s for his supplier business and entrepreneurism.
